I joined Eagle Air Flying Club to fulfill a dream that had haunted me for the previous 30 years. As a young boy my father took me to the local airport during "Penny a pound day", for each pound you weighed it cost a penny for an airplane flight. That short flight at a very young age sparked my interest in airplanes.
Fast forward many years later, school, military service, relocation, children, family, career, it all had my focus and concentration which did not leave time for my dream. Finally I realized if I wanted to be a pilot, I needed to take action, after a lot of research I found Eagle Air.
Eagle Air offers a friendly social environment with people that truely enjoy flying and Wood County Airport was a wonderful location to facilitate my training. I attended a meeting as a guest, went for a quick ride in one of the airplanes with an instructor and knew I had to do it. I haven't looked back and don't regret it, I was put in touch with a great instructor that was familiar with the club airplanes and had a great teaching method, that was December 2007.
In June 2008, I took my check ride and became a private pilot! I can't say enough about what this has done for me, there truely is nothing better than the feeling I get as I roll onto the runway, I know my day is getting better as you hit rotation speed and the airplane gently becomes airborne, just like that you are flying! I have taken many family and friends up for rides, some I hope will go on to get their pilots license, if they do I will encourage them to join a flying club.
This is a bit long winded, but it is something I am passionate about. If you have your license but life got in the way, I encourage you to attend a monthly meeting. Hang out at the airport, talk to some of the people, look over the airplanes, you will not regret it. If you are not a pilot but are thinking you may want to take lessons, I encourage you to do the same, you will not regret it!
